These are porcelain veneers with metal as their substructure. They are preferred in posterior teeth with higher chewing forces. They are used for fractured or damaged teeth following root canal treatment or large fillings, because they are resistant against force. Another reason for preferring them is that they are less expensive as compared to other types of veneers.

What are the Disadvantages of Porcelain Veneers with Metal Support?

  • Light permeability is not as good as natural teeth because of the metal substructure. Therefore, its esthetic properties are in medium-level as compared to zirconium and full ceramic veneers.
  • They can discolor at the level of gingiva in time.
  • Porcelain veneers with metal substructure cannot be used in individuals with metal allergy despite the use of alloys not containing nickel are used in them.

How are the Porcelain Veneers with Metal Support Used?

Teeth will be abraded under local anesthesia. A Measurement will be taken on the same day and sent to the laboratory. Temporary crowns will be prepared and fixed to ensure I the patient will not have a missing tooth till placement. Then an appointment will be arranged for fitting and preparation of veneer will be waited for. Veneers will be ready within 10 to 15 days with 3 or 4 fittings. The prepared porcelain veneer will be fixed in the patient’s mouth using a special glue. This period can take a little longer in case of on-going root canal treatment.
